The Royal Navy 1939-45

From the Osprey Elite series. The outbreak of war found the Royal navy with world wider responsibilities but, despite its professionalism, it was hampered by out of date doctrines. Despite early clashes between capital ships advances in submarines and air / sea warfare soon came to dominate the war at sea. The Royal Navy responded and became a fully effective and professional war fighting arm of the Allies war winning effort.
