NavyBooks started as ‘Maritime Books’ founded in 1979 by Royal Navy officer Mike Critchley to publish books and magazines on naval subjects. Over time the on-line bookshop was added to the business and now sells to customers worldwide. In October 2015 Maritime Books became NavyBooks with Ian Whitehouse as the new Managing Director.
EDITOR – STEVE BUSH
Steve Bush entered the Royal Navy, at HMS Raleigh, Torpoint, in 1978. During the next twenty two years he served in HM Ships Ajax, Dido, Euryalus, Sirius, Galatea, Brave and London. His career saw several operational deployments to the Gulf, including the 1991 Gulf War.
On leaving the Royal Navy in 2000 he joined Maritime Books, editing in house publications. Steve took up the position of Editor of Warship World and Warship World Pictorial Review magazines in 2003.
He lives in Plymouth with his wife Joy.
OFFICE MANAGER – PAT GARNETT
Pat joined the business nearly 29 years ago and is the lynch pin of the operation. Pat manages the website, sales, accounts and, most importantly, customer relations, handling enquiries and sales from many people from around the world on a daily basis.
Pat lives in Liskeard close to her daughter and grandchildren.
MANAGING DIRECTOR – IAN WHITEHOUSE
Ian joined the Royal Navy in 1970. After completing a degree and training, he joined the submarine service and served in OTTER, SEALION, SPARTAN, OLYMPUS, ONYX (in Command), TRAFALGAR and SOVEREIGN (In command).
Retiring in ’92 and after completing an MBA Ian held many senior roles in the healthcare sector before returning to the West Country and becoming a publisher.
