  1. Fine quick reference book BUT!
I've been getting this book since it was first published and it remains a fine quick reference work. This years edition is no different, yet it could be better. There is a very large section devoted to Serco Defence yet other organisations who contribute to this nations maritime defence and security get no mention at all. The MOD Police and the Gibraltar Defence Police have launches and patrol boats devoted to protecting our naval bases but find no place here. 17 Port & Maritime Regiment Combat Support Boats are mentioned each year but never pictured or details given. The RN recently purchased a whole range of workboats, of which HMS Magpie is the largest but the others are not mentioned or details supplied. In the weapons section the new range of systems entering service with the Type 26 and Type 31 Frigates are not mentioned even though they are well known systems and all details are in the public domain. The other government vessels such as Royal Research Ships are not mentioned nor details given despite performing tasks which is if value to the Naval Service, indeed not so long ago they were all naval vessels. This is not a direct criticism of this fine book, it does what it does exceptionally well, but it would be good to see the book expanded to cover the depth and range of subjects covered in the review of the US Navy and Auxiliaries. Very Good but not great, perhaps next year
