Details

HMS CLYDE photographed on 3rd August 2008 shortly before deploying to the Falklands. She commissioned in 2007 and is seen on trials in the Solent.

Built by the Vosper Thornycroft Group, she was the last ship to be completed for the Royal Navy in Portsmouth Dockyard. A modified River class patrol vessel, she differs from her three sisters by having 30 mm gun, as well as an aft deck strengthened for aircraft operations. She has replaced LEEDS CASTLE and DUMBARTON CASTLE in the role of Falkland Islands Patrol Ship, a task which used to be alternated between her predecessors.

CLYDE has remained on station in the South Atlantic since arriving in 2008. With her crews rotating on a regular basis from the UK, she is not expected to return home until 2018
