The Falklands Conflict was remarkable for many reasons: it was a hard fought, bloody and short conflict between a leading NATO power and one of the most capable armed forces in South America; it demonstrated the capabilities of a range of cutting-edge technologies including nuclear-powered attack submarines, Exocet missiles and Sea Harrier VSTOL aircraft; and it was fought many thousands of miles away from the Royal Navy's home bases. 1. A good primer on the Falklands War ****
With the 40th anniversary of the Falklands war coming up in 2022 this is a timely book, providing a good primer or refresher on the naval aspects of the conflict. There may not be much new here but the main naval episodes are covered and the book is well illustrated. It would have been good to have had mention of the formidable logistics task of keeping the task force suplied and maintained so far from the naval bases.
