Details

During Staff College Sea Days on 26th May 1983 the Type 21 Frigate HMS ALACRITY is seen off the Isle of Wight.

Built at Yarrow’s she was completed just in time to attend the Silver Jubilee Fleet Review in June 1977, together with three of her sister ships. In 1980 she was deployed to the Far East and was one of a group of RN ships to sail up the Yangtse river, the first to do so since AMETHYST.

She saw action during the Falklands campaign and, during a night transit of Falkland Sound, encountered and sank the Argentine transport ship ISLA DE LOS ESTADOS.

She paid off from the Royal in 1994 and was sold for further service to the Pakistani Navy where she was renamed PNS BADR and fitted with Chinese LY 60N missiles in place of the Exocet. She finally paid off from the Pakistani Navy in 2014.
